Holger Dankse is a legendary Danish hero, said to have been one of Charlemagne’s knights.
The legend says that he was the son of a Danish king, and though he originally sought revenge on Charlemagne for the death of his son at the hands of Charlemagne’s son, Holger joined Charlemagne’s army to fight against the Saracens. When he was done fighting, Holger Danske walked all the way back to Denmark. He now rests in Kronburg castle, where sits his statue, waiting until Denmark once again needs his aid.
